Leanna J. Smith is a top criminal defense attorney with a background tailor-made to successfully advocate for your defense: After receiving her undergraduate degree from Stetson University in Political Science, Attorney Smith went on to attend both the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (ranked among the top 100 law schools) in New York City and Yale Law School in New Haven, CT.
While at Cardozo, Attorney Smith was one of just eight individuals selected by former O.J. Simpson DNA attorney, Barry Scheck, to work on The Innocence Project. The famous, groundbreaking program focuses on using DNA evidence to get wrongly convicted individuals off of death row and out of prison. In addition to her work with The Innocence Project, Attorney Smith regularly participated in national criminal defense moot court competitions, where she honed a variety of defense skills—ultimately becoming a top criminal defense attorney and a forceful presence in the Volusia County court system.
After serving as a Volusia County prosecutor over 27 years ago, Attorney Smith chose to switch to the side of the defense. Her private criminal law practice has fought for clients charged with criminal offenses in DeLand, Daytona Beach, DeBary, Deltona, Orange City and other areas of Volusia County since 1997.
Attorney Smith is known for three things above all else: client respect, aggressiveness in the courtroom and total dedication to every case. These are all important things to find out when selecting a criminal law attorney to defend you. The success Attorney Smith achieves in the courtroom stems from her ability to focus on the “total person” and not just the elements of the crime.

We prefer to handle our cases personally, this way absolutely nothing is missed. Madeline is graduating with two degrees from Stetson University this May. She has earned both a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
